Sofia’s recipe for Areias de Cascais

Areias de Cascais

200 g butter
200 g sugar
350 g flour
extra sugar for coating
Cream the butter and sugar until smooth.
Add the flour and work the dough until it becomes uniform.
Shape small balls and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Bake at 180°C for about 15 minutes, until lightly golden.
While still warm, roll them in sugar.
Then let them cool.
The rest happens naturally.
Because Areias de Cascais have that effect.
You start with one.
And they almost always disappear.
